Impressions of California
July 2009
View on Downtown San Francisco
The historic cable cars need to be turned by hand at their terminus
Riding the cable car, standing on the footboard of course
Saturday morning at the ferry building, where people come to enjoy delicacies at the bustling farmers' market
Chinatown looks quite unique - the buildings seem like a real fusion of "San Francisco style" and Chinese elements
The beautiful and exclusive neighbourhood of Pacific Heights...
...with some potemkin houses?
The Marina is probably the neighbourhood I would most like to live in were I to move to San Francisco - beautiful houses close to the shore on one end and lively Chesnuts Street full of nice little restaurants and bars on the other end
Little bike trip to the beach with view on Golden Gate Bridge
Crossing Golden Gate Bridge in our convertibles on our way to Napa - still foggy in the morning...
...but soon to be sunny as we hit the vinyards and wineries
Enjoying a tasting on the terrace of the Opus One winery
Back in San Francisco to watch the Giants game (they won by a mile) on 4th of July - our first ever baseball game!
En route down south along scenic Highway 1
White sand in picturesque Carmel by the Sea (the only cloudy day)
Most stunning coastline along Big Sur...
...and this beautiful surprise as we walked into our hotel room at Pismo Beach
A little stop for frozen yogurt and some shopping in Santa Barbara (to the guys' regret, the girls got completely carried away by the boutiques there...)
Venice Beach in the morning - clear sand as far as the eye can see (it didn't get really crowded later in the day, either)
Driving along Hollywood Boulevard...
...and Rodeo Drive in L.A.
