Day Trip to Stunning Fuji-San
07 April 2008
Last Sunday Simon and I rented a car and made a day trip to the famous five-lakes-area, from where you can enjoy the most beautiful views on Fuji-San.
I was even more impressed than I had expected. Fuji-San is often not visible at all - even if the weather is good elsewhere, the mountain has its own micro-climate and is often hidden behind clouds. But we were lucky and had a fantastic view, despite the day not being perfectly clear. I suppose what makes Fuji-San particularly spectacular is the fact that it is the only really high mountain in the area, standing there majesticly with its regular shape and its snow-covered summit. It is really stunning! It is not surprising that people used to think that this is where the Gods live...
It was also good advice to be brave and get up very early in the morning. We left Tokyo at 7am and arrived at the lakes just before 9, well ahead of the crowds. We had a very pleasant picknick-brunch while enjoying the peaceful morning atmosphere, watching some fishermen and a water skier on the lake. And indeed at around 11am first clouds started to cover Fuji-San's summit...
